Exfoliating comes in many different ways – most commonly a physical exfoliant which is better known as a scrub, where the grains polish away the top layer of the skin, or a chemical exfoliant, such as AHAs like glycolic acid which slowly work to break down the dirt and dead skin cells. But have you heard of a gommage exfoliator?
Gommage is actually the French word for erase, which is what it does – erase away dead skin! A gommage peel actually combines both chemical and mechanical forms of exfoliation. What makes it so satisfying to use is that you can actually “see” your dead skin being removed! I use the inverted commas because the dead skin is microscopic, but what you can see is the bits of the product balling up together with the skin.
I haven’t used a gommage peel in some time, instead favouring a glycolic acid toner as my exfoliator. But ever since I’ve picked this Mizon Apple Smoothie Peeling Gel up, I find myself reaching for it more and more! I’ve tried similar products in the past, and using this again just reminded me how fun skin care can actually be.
If you’ve never used a gommage peel before, you basically apply on clean, dry skin and rub it in circular motions on your face. What happens next is the exciting part!
As seen in this picture, it starts balling up as you rub it in. Wash it off and you’re left with baby soft skin!
What I also really love about this product is that it uses apple, papaya and lemon extracts, which are all known to be natural exfoliants. Apple is also an astringent, which helps to tighten pores after clearing out the dead skin.
The cherry on top of this smoothie treat? It’s only $18.99 for a tube that should last you at least 6 months. Go forth and exfoliate with ease!
